Münster maschine: Enemies and lovers

On june 6th, 1944, the allies had landed on the beaches of Normandy and have now entered western Europe.
The allies were advancing rapidly towards the lair of the German beast. Berlin was to be captured. They were in a hurry because the Red Army was on its way as well.

The begining of the story

Sergeant Paul Woods, soldier of Pattons armored division, was sitting on top of a M4A3E8  ”Easy Eight” Sherman. He was smoking cigarette he had looted from Germans held area. He gazed into the bright sky watching the B-17s’ flying above the tank column he was part of. He saw how they were dropping bombs to forest where German forces were stationed in.

After the B-17s’ had bombed the forest, the US troops were now able to safely go through it. While they were in the forest, Paul saw how much damage the bombs had caused. Panzer IVs’ were completly destroyed, turrets had flewn off after the ammunition exploded inside the tanks.
Paul watches that how devastating the bombing was. He sees dead Germans everywhere, some of them  were mutilated that it was impossible to recognize them as people.

After an day on the move, Paul and the column reaches an town that is heavily defended by the German army. The Germans have StuG IIIs’ with them. The StuGs’ are dangerous opponents, because they have thick frontal armor and hard hitting 75 mm gun. Plus the assault gun has really low profile. Beside the SutGs’, the Germans have 75 mm anti-tank guns in the town.
Paul jumps off from the Sherman and takes his trusty Garand from his back and starts walking behind the Sherman that now provides cover for him and some other soldiers of Pattons army.

Paul: Stay behind the tank, boys. When Fritz starts firing their guns, we have some cover. (Throws his cigarette to the ground and looks from behind the Sherman)

Suddenly one US soldier falls dead to the ground. Few seconds and another one falls. The Americans get better into the cover that they can find.

”There’s an fucking sniper somewhere. Get to the cover boys” Said  Paul. After he said this, himself was shotted, luckily not fataly. He was taken away from the city and brought back to the camp where they came.

Paul Woods recovered a week at the medical tent before going back to the front. The city they were attacking was invaded and they are continuing their way to Berlin.

His battalion was on a long march, still few hundreds miles from Berlin. The night falls, the sky is clear and Paul can see the stars in the sky like they are billions of blinking diamonds.
”Hey sarge! Want some beef jerky?” said one of the privates in his battalion.
Paul looked at the kid and replied ”Nah I’m good. I have food provided by Adolf himself”

Paul eats his meal and lays on the ground and closes his eyes falling asleep under one of the Shermans.
Here's the first part of my random WW2 stories. I just make them for fun because I like doing so. Ask a question if you are curious.
